Santtila et al (2008) Flashcards
Which bibliacal approach
Genetic similarities
How do we test for genetic similarities
Usually twin studies, adoption studies and family studies are used
What are two types of twins
Monozygotic (MZ) - one egg
Dizygotic (DZ) - two eggs
Aim
To study homosexual attraction rather than homosexual activity in monozygotic twins
Method
The participants were given a questionnaire to determine their sexuality. Questions included - would you have sexual intercourse with someone who was attractive? If no one would ever find out? If the would-be partners issued it? etc.
Results
The rates for self declared homosexuality for males was 3.1% while it was 1.2% for women. The rates for potential homosexuality were 32.8% for men and 65.4% for women.
Findings
53% of MZ male twins had the potential to participate in homosexual intercourse
