Santangelo - intro Flashcards
What are the Rag proteins?
They are the proteins that create the double stranded break in the DNA within the VDJ segments.
What are the precursors for the immune system cells and where does each come from?
It all starts with stem cells. From There they can become either myeloid or lymphoid cells.. From there, the lymphoid cells become members of the adaptive immune system. The myeloid cells become members of the innate immune system.
What cells have CD25?
Treg
What CD will all T cells have?
CD3
Humoral immunity vs. cell mediated immunity
Humoral === B. Cells
Cell-mediated = T cells
Adjuvant
An agent that stimulates the immune system and, for example, increases the responsiveness to the vaccine. But, it does not have a specific antigenic affect on itself.
- for example, antigens might not actually cause a response. Sometimes you have to mix it with an adjuvant to make an immune response occur.
Flow. Cytometry
A way to look at multiple protein expression on a cell. - You have one cell at a time going through a nozzle. It then hits laser beams which is read and depicted as a color.
CBC
Done through flow Cytometry. It shows the different population of cell based on size
FACS - Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting
Using fluorescent take in order to understand which cell surface receptors are being expressed on various cells. We can also tell how much of each specific protein is being expressed.
Hyper variable vs framework region
Pretty much all antibodies are the same in the variable region in most places. The only places that are different are in areas called the “hyper variable” region. The framework region is the region that largely stays the same.
