What is random sampling ?
It is used to compare the number of organisms in different areas to do this we use quadrat and place it in random locations
What is a quadrat ?
A quadrat is a wooden or plastic square
How do you use a quadrat ?
To use a quadrat we place it on the ground then count the number of organism inside the quadrat then move it to a different locations and do the same thing. - It can be used to sample plants or slow moving animals
What is a transect ?
A transect is a line such as a tape measure or rope
How to sample using a a transect ?
Place transect so it runs across habitat that we are looking at.
Then use quadrat to count number of organisms at intervals on the transect
Why do we use sampling across a transect ?
To see how number of organisms change across a habitat
What is the total population size equation ?
total population size =
total area + area sampled x number of organisms of that species counted in the sample
