Sampling Errorx Flashcards
Types of errors
Type 1 or a error
Type 2 or beta error
Type 1 error
Error of first kind
Rejection of null hypothesis that is actually True
Used to determine the sample size
Multiple comparison and testing for significance increases the liklihood of type 1 error
Type 2 error
Error of second kind
Acceptance of null hypothesis that is actually False
Used to determine power of study
Power of study=1-beta
Power of study?
Probability that the study would reject a null hypotheses as “false” when actually it is “false”
As sample size increases the power of study increases
Relation between the two errors
Type 1 error is inversely related to type two error
Null hypotheses
When in reality the two drugs do not differ in their efficacy this means that the null hypotheses is “ true”.
If this is rejected due to the study showing significant difference. It is type one error
Degree of freedom in contingency table
D. F. = (c-1)x(r-1)
C= columns
R=rows
