1

Q

What are the steps in simple random sampling?

A
  1. Define the population (N)
    1. Choose the sample size (n)
    2. List the population
    3. Assign numbers to potential participants
    4. Find random numbers
      Select sample

Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of simple random sampling?

A

Advantages

  • Cheap
  • Easy to conduct
  • Sample is highly representative of the population
  • Unbiased

Disadvantages
- May be difficult to obtain list of population

Q

What are advantages and disadvantages of systematic sampling?

A

Advantages

  • Representative
  • Ensures that sample is evenly spread through the population

Disadvantages

  • Worse when there is a pattern
  • Reference list may be difficult to obtain.

Q

What is cluster sampling?

A

Sample contains strata that is not necessarily in the same ratio as that in the population, and the strata are pre-divided and based on location (differs from stratified)

Q

What are the advantages and disadvantages of cluster sampling?

A

Advantages

  • Efficient as the population is already divided into strata.
  • Highly representative of the population (can be better than simple random)

Disadvantages
- Least representative
