Sampling Flashcards
Accessible vs Target Populations
Accessible: The portion of the target population that the researcher can access.
Target: The group of people that the researcher wants to study.
Probabilistic Sampling Techniques
Simple Random, Stratified, and Cluster Sampling
Simple Random Sampling
When the researcher randomly selects a subset of participants from a population.
Each participant has an equal chance of being selected.
Stratified Sampling
Involves the division of a population into smaller subgroups.
Cluster Sampling
When a researcher divides a population into clusters and then randomly selects among these clusters to form a sample.
Non-Probabilistic Sampling
Purposive, Snowball, and Quota Sampling
Purposive Sampling
Researcher seeks out elements that meet specific criteria.
Snowball Sampling
Researcher relies on participant referrals to recruit new participants.
Quota Sampling
Researcher selects cases from within several different sub-groups.
