Rigor Criteria Flashcards
Rigor Criteria in Qualitative Research
Credibility, Transferability, Dependability, and Confirmability
Credibility
A measure of the truth value of qualitative research, or whether the study’s findings are correct and accurate.
Transferability
The degree to which the results of qualitative research can be generalized or transferred to other contexts or settings.
Dependability
The measure of the extent to which a research study could be repeated by a separate researcher and reveal the same findings.
Confirmability
The degree to which the results could be confirmed by others.
Rigor Criteria in Quantitative Research
Internal Validity, External Validity, Fidelity, and Objectivity
Internal Validity
The extent to which the observed results represent the truth in the population we are studying and are not due to methodological errors.
External Validity
Asks whether the findings of a study can be generalized to patients with characteristics that are different from those in the study.
Fidelity
The degree to which a study accurately reflects the intended intervention/plan.
Objectivity
Results are free from researcher bias or personal opinions.
