What are the 5 types of non-random sampling?
1- Quota sampling
2- Purposive sampling
3- Opportunity sampling
4- Snowball sampling
5- Volunteer sampling
What is systematic random sampling?
A list of the entire population is produced. A number is chosen at random 1-10 and every nth number is selected- continued until sampling frame is complete
What is stratified random sampling?
Population is divided into different sampling frames (e.g. age, gender, social class). Systematic sampling is then used to select sampling frame
What is quota sampling?
Population divided into different sampling frames, and researcher goes out looking for the right number of people to fill the quota
What is purposive sampling?
Researcher chooses individuals that fit the nature of the research study
What is opportunity sampling?
Making the most of the situation in which the research population is likely to be found
What is snowball sampling?
Finding and interviewing an individual who fits the research needs and asking them to suggest someone else to participate
What is volunteer sampling
Sociologists place out an advert, asking for volunteers to participate in the study
