Sampling Flashcards
Simple random sampling
Assign each a number and let it generate numbers. Works well but complicated and time consuming
Probability sampling
Unbiased, random sampling. All members have an equal chance (good external validity)
Non probability sampling
Bias samples, other category: convenience, quota, snowball and purposive
Cluster sampling
Already divided into groups, clusters of participants randomly selected.
Multistage sampling
Randomly select samples of members within selected clusters
Stratified random sampling
Particular category, randomly select within each. Corresponding with the known percentage.
Oversampling
Over representing a group in the sample because it might result in too little people in the group.
Systematic sampling
Using a random number like every fifth person.
Convenience sampling
Using easy access.
Purposive sampling
Taking one group like only smokers
Snowball sampling
Participants recommend
Quota sampling
setting a quota like 45 women 34 men.
