Research designs Flashcards
Posttest only design
Equivalent groups, randomly assigned to independent variable groups, tested once
Within-group design
Presented with all levels of the independent variable. Repeated and concurrent, Results in power, variables are kept constant and requires few participants.
Pretest/posttest design
Tested before and after (can be preferred not to test twice)
Concurrent measures disign
Dependent variable is a single behavioral preference, exposed to all levels at the same time
Repeated measures design
All participants are exposed to each level of the independent and dependent variable
Independent group design
Between groups. Pretest/posttest or posttest only. Groups are kept separate.
Order effects
Threat in within group. Practice: fatique effects when sequence is long or they get better. Carryover: Contamination carries over from conditions. Fixed with counterbalancing(different sequence)
