Samples and Populations Flashcards
A question where the answer varies, so we need to collect data to find the answer.
Statistical Question
Information collected from a statistical question.
Data
The entire group we want to study; this could be all lizards on an island, all students in a school, all trees in a forest, etc.
Population
A part of the population used to gather information, representing the entire population.
Sample
The sample doesn’t represent everyone fairly.
Bias Data
Surveying a variety of people. A sample where every individual in the sample is selected at random from the population.
Random Sample
The number of observations/individuals in the sample. Larger sample sizes make better data.
Sample Size
Once a sample has been collected from a population, an________________ can be made about the entire population.
