Samenvatting boek deel 1 Flashcards
Which 3 domains contributed to the development of clinical neuropsychology?
- Clinical neuroscience
- Educational psychology
- Experimental studies of cognitive functions in both humans and other animals
What is ecological validity?
This refers to how well the neuropsychological assessment data reflect everyday functioning or predict future behavior or behavioral outcomes.
What is the difference of organicity and contemporary neuropsychological assessment?
Organicity = viewpoint of brain damage as a unitary phenomenon
Contemporary = multiple types of brain damage can occur at the same time
Which 3 systems can be used to conceptualize behavior?
- Cognition: the information handling aspect of behavior
- Emotion: feelings and motivation
- EF: how behavior is expressed
What are the 4 major classes of cognitive functions?
- Receptive functions: select, acquire, classify and integrate information
- Memory and learning: information storage and retrieval
- Thinking: mental organization and reorganization of information
- Expressive functions: means through which communicated or acted upon
What is the difference between associative agnosia and apperceptive agnosia?
Associative agnosia = breakdown in one or more aspects of the patient’s information store or generic knowledge
Apperceptive agnosia = agnosia due to higher level perceptual disturbances
What type of memory is mostly impaired in amnesia en what type of memory is mostly intact?
Short-term memory capacity is relatively intact, however, there are significant long term memory impairments.
Which type of memory is mostly preserved in amnestic patients?
Non-declarative memory
What type of ‘language’ is not affected in Broca’s and in Wernicke’s aphasia?
Broca’s: comprehension
Wernicke’s: fluency
What is Kluver-Bucy syndrome?
A destruction of amygdale resulting in inability to learn, eat a lot, and hyper sexuality.
