That not all events actually happened but the stories are symbolic and show how god wants us to live our life

What does sin do?
It creates an epistemic distance from god (for example an act of murder) and humans which means that the world needs salvation
Why is the bible so important?
It is inspired by god therefore it has authority
Provides answers to moral questions
Contains rules and teachings which helps guide people in their lives
If you read and meditate on holy scriptures it can reveal the truth of gods message
What are Christian’s beliefs about sin?
People are born with original sin- tendency to disobey god
Came into the world due to the Fall- Adam and Eve
Original sin is passed down generations
When did original sin occur?
When Adam and Eve were tempted by the devil into disobeying god
What bible passage tells the story of the original sin?
Genesis 3:6 - “When the woman saw the fruit of the tree she took some and ate it”
What is grace?
An unconditional love that god has for everyone
Salvation doesn’t need to be earned instead you just have to believe and Jesus and god
What are some problems about original sin?
Many Christian’s think it is unfair to punish all of humanity for an act committed by one man and woman
It is difficult to explain biologically how original sin can be passed from generation to generation
Many Christian’s understand original sin as a way of understanding that humans have gone astray and are prone to acting against gods law
Liberal Christian’s don’t believe the story of Adam and Eve happened literally. Events of the fall didnt hapoen
How do Christian’s achieve salvation?
Catholics- By taking part in the sacraments they can achieve salvation and go to heaven for example baptism removes original sin
Confessing (penance) absolved for sins confessed
Protestant salvation is achieved by faith in Jesus and repent for sins
“Those that believe in my name”
What does grace do to Christian’s?
It helps them live a good life, god sends the Holy Spirit to bring grace
Grace helps people pray for help from god and keeps them from sin
The gift of grace is recorded in the book of Acts 2:1-6 when the holy soirit appears to the disciples after Jesus’ ascension
What is an example of grace happening?

What does the Holy Spirit do in salvation?
The Holy Spirit helps Christian’s to follow the teachings of god

That everyone will sin yet they will “turn to god in repentance”- Acts 20:21

Many Christian’s interpret biblical texts and select which parts should be obeyed
In some countries the law is based on the sacred text for example in the 10 commandments laws such as “thou shalt not kill” and “thou shalt not steal” are laws

What are some atonement theories?
Jesus was a sacrifice for human sin. The same was Jews would sacrifice an animal to atone for sins (Jesus describes as “lamb of god” in John 1:36)
Jesus paid a ransom for human sin( to the devil) whcih released humans from captivity and allowed them to be saved
What does the spirit do in evangelical worship
Worshippers are encouraged to be moved by the spirit in worship
Believe the Holy Spirit is present and influences them in prayer
Often shout and praise god- some move to speak in tongues which is a gift of the Holy Spirit
