Why did the king change from a monarchy to salutary neglect while ruling the colonies?
The colonists were breaking away from the monarchy because the King forced the Anglican Church.

British Policy that allowed the King and Parliament to turn a blind eye to what was going on in the colonies in exchange for economic loyalty
What did salutary neglect lead to in the colonies?
The colonists started to experiment with democracy
Mercantilism
to obtain as much gold and silver as possible to establish a favourable balance of trade
Smuggling
Colonists started taking money from the king and obtaining and exporting goods with other countries(were supposed to have economic loyalty)

Captains were elected and could be removed by the crew, every man gets to vote, and fair rations.

red meant no quarter would be given and battle would be fought to the death

How were checks and balances used in a royal colony?
The lower house paid the royal governors salary so even though the royal governor had final say in all laws the lower house could check the governor by lowering their pay.

the governor and his council was appointed by the king.
Proprietary colony
The proprietor was granted a large amount of power from the king and the proprietor appointed the governor and council in the upper house. The lower house was elected by qualified voters.
Self-governing colony
Almost completely independent from England. Voters elected the governor and the representatives in the upper and lower house.
