Salting Flashcards
Define Salting
A unique value that can be added to the end of the password to create a different hash value
Why is Salting done
This adds a layer of security to the hashing process, specifically against brute force attacks
Define Biometrics
Unique measures of yourself
What are some examples of Biometrics
Fingerprints, Retina Scans, Voice, Face Recognition
Define Fingerprints
Fingerprint systems analyse the location of “minutiae” the endings and bifurcations of the friction ridges on the pad of your finger
Define Retina Scans
A retinal scan is a biometric technique that maps the unique patterns of a person’s retina using a low intensity light source, it scans retina blood vessels
Define Voice Recognition
Voice or speaker recognition is the ability of a machine or program to receive and interpret dictation or to understand and carry outspoken commands
Define Face Recognition
Facial recognition is a way of identifying or confirming an individual’s identity using their face
What are the issues with Biometrics
Identifier, not a secret. Passwords resets are hard. Biometric compromise is far-reaching
Define Zero Day
Unknown exploits not yet discovered
Why is Zero Day bad
Makes it difficult to know if a system is secure
Define Bug Bounties
Companies offering payments for finding bugs
