Chemicals on the Skin
Flush area with large amounts of water and report to TA or instructor. If pain develops, go to Health Services.
Chemicals in the Eye
Use emergency eye wash for at least 10 minutes and have someone get the instructor. Go to Health Services after flushing.
Cuts, Abrasions, and Burns
Report to TA or instructor.
What to Do in Case of a Large Fire
Turn off all gas valves and exit the building.
Class A Fires
Ordinary combustible materials (paper, wood, most plastics).
Class B Fires
Flammable/combustible liquids (gasoline, solvents, grease, oil).
Class C Fires
Electrical equipment (appliances, wiring, circuit breakers, outlets).
PASS Technique
Pull the pin or locking device.
Aim low, at the base of the fire.
Squeeze the handle.
Sweep slowly and evenly across the base of the fire.
Neutralize an Acid or Base Spill
Wash with plenty of water. Spill kits are available in the storage room for large spills.
How to Clean Up Broken Glass
Use a brush and dustpan. Absorbent cotton can be used to pick up fine pieces of broken glass. Cotton should be held with tongs. NEVER use paper towel to clean up broken glass.
