Safety and Professionalism Flashcards
What are the six trouble shooting steps for CompTIA?
- Identify the Problem
- Establish a Theory of Probably Cause
- Test the Theory to Determine Cause
- Establish a Plan of Action to Resolve the Problem & Implement the Solution
- Verify Full System Functionality and Implement Preventative Measures
- Document Findings, Actions, and Outcomes
What is Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)?
- A form of electromagnetic pulse (EMP), it is the passage of a static electrical charge from one item to another.
Why is ESD bad for computing devices?
It will destroy the sensitive parts that make up the internal hardware of the device.
How does ESD occur?
When two objects that store different amounts of static electricity come in contact.
How can you avoid ESD?
- By keeping yourself and the computer parts you are working with at the same electrical potential (grounding yourself to the computer device).
- You can keep yourself grounded by either using specialized equipment or by periodically touching the power supply (Equipment Grounding).
What is Equipment Grounding?
The act of periodically touching the power supply of a device to keep the electrical potential between you and the device the same.
What is Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)?
Occurs when electrical signals from one device disrupt the operation of another device nearby. It can cause malfunctions, noise, or even complete failure in electronic systems.
What is Radio Frequency Interference (RFI)?
Occurs when unwanted radio signals from other sources mess up wireless communication.
