Rules of safe Firearm handling
-All treat it as if it is loaded
-Never let the muzzle cover anything that you are not willing to destroy
-Keep your finger off the trigger
-Be sure of your target and what is beyond it
Trigger-block safety
Blocks the trigger
Hammer/Striker- block safety
Blocks the hammer from hitting the firing pin
Magazine Safety
Prevents the firing when the magazine is removed
Grip safety
Prevents firing of firearm, if not properly gripped
Firing pin safety
Prevents firing pin from moving unless trigger is pulled
Disconnect Safety
Prevents firing when out of battery
Transfer Bar Safety
Prevents hammer from contacting firing-pin unless trigger is pulled
Half-Cocked Notch Safety
Prevents firing if thumb slips off hammer during cocking
Trigger Safety
Prevents trigger pull unless entire surface is pulled
Clearing a firearm with a removable magazine
-Point the gun in a safe direction
-Remove the source of ammunition
-Check the chamber visually and physically
-Check the bolt face
-Check the bore
Clearing a firearm with a non-removable magazine
-Point the firearm in a safe direction
-Open the action and check the chamber visually and physically
-Check the bolt face
-Once the chamber is confirmed, close the action slowly while watching to make sure it remains empty
-Find the follower, empty if necessary
-Check the bore
