Safety Flashcards
What is exposure? Measured in?
Capacity of x-rays to ionize air. Measured in Roentgen (R).
What is absorbed dose? Measured in?
Total energy absorbed by any type of ionizing radiation per unit of mass. Measured in Gray (Gy).
What is effective dose? Measured in?
Estimates risk in humans. Measured in Sieverts (Sv).
What is the primary risk of radiography?
Cancer.
What is non-linear threshold hypothesis?
Increased dose=increased risk. Therefor, no safe dose.
What is ALARA?
As Low As Reasonably Possible.
What should you do first before taking radiographs?
Clinical exam.
Are lead aprons required?
Only with thyroid collars in children.
With increased caries risk, when should repeate radiographs be conducted?
Child=Posterior bitewings 6-12 months
Adult= P BW 6-18 months
With low risk caries patients, whats the recall radiographs times?
Child= 12-24 months
Teen=18-36
Adult=18-36
