SAFER ET AL (1979) issues, strengths, weaknesses Flashcards
1

2
Q
ISSUES AND DEBATES? (What ethical guidelines could be argued to have been violated?)
A
- PRIVACY= Ppts may feel vulnerable sharing personal justifications for delays or previous medical experiences.
- HARM= Ppts may feel uncomfortable or guilty (for delays)
3
Q
Strengths?
A
RWA= * RWA: The research helps inform DRS/organisations why patients may delay seeking treatment.
* This could help in creating strategies to combat this
4
Q
weaknesses?
A
- Subjectivity=
- Self reports can be unreliable due to subjectivity
- May also result in social desirability bias as patients may not want to seem incompetent, lazy or judged due to their delay in seeking treatment.
- Thus, they may produce inaccurate answers skewing the results of the study.
