what should children and young people be protected from
- physical abuse

protecting children against sexual activity
- sexual activity in children under 13 is illegal- should usually be reported to social service
- sexual activity in children under 16 is an offence but for 13-15 year olds, as long as no abuse or exploitation has taken place and it is with someone of a similar age, no action would usually be taken
what should vulnerable adults be protected form
- ma be suffering from mental r physical disbaility
- have learning difficulties
- be frail or elderly
- be in an abusive relationship
- be a substance misuser
- physical abuse
- neglect

- financial abuse
- should try to obtain consent before reporting unless its an emergency
what you should and shouldn’t do when protecting vulnerable adults
- never attempt to investigate
- never discuss concerns with alleged perpetrator
- always record your concerns
- record whether or not any further actions taken
what must all pharmacies have
- safeguarding lead
- must display a safeguarding notice- key contacts
what training is required for safeguarding
- level 2 safeguarding training
- via local training sessions organised by clinical commissioning groups, NHS England
- GPhC have a policy on maintaining sexual boundaries
what is the chaperone policy
- person who s present as a safeguard for the person receiving care and the healthcare professional
- no family member or other familiar person to the pt should be asked to undertake a chaperoning role unless requested by the pt
what must pharmacists do if they observe female genital mutilation
- now have a legal duty to report, orally or in writing, to the police if they observe physical signs that female genital mutilation may have taken place in a girl under the age of 18, or a child or young person tells them that they have had FGM
What is ask for ANI
action needed immediately
- enables victims of domestic abuse to discreetly ask for immediate help in a pharmacy
- a member of staff will take victim to the consultation room
- they will then check whether the victim is in danger and wants police to be called
- in some cases, the victim may not need emergency help and the staff member will assist them to contact a national domestic abuse helpline

- requirement to become reaccredited every 2-3 years
- requires completing CPPE training on EHC, contraception and safeguarding, then completing a declaration of competency
- client group for for this service is potentially vulnerable
