what is reflective practice
ability to reflect on ones actions so as to engage in a process of continuous learning
- assess professional experiences and recording and documenting insight to aid their learning and identify opportunities to improve
- allows individual to continually improve quality of care they provide and gives multidisciplinary teams opportunity to reflect and discuss
why is reflective practice important
- way of amking sure we are learning the right things/improving ourselves in the right areas
- core part of model for revalidation for pharmacy professionals
encouraged to reflect on GPhc standards in reflective account and to reflect with others using peer discussion - planned CPD entries are also reflective
annual GPhC registration
- annually, at least 2 months before due
- make fitness to practice declarations

what is the purpose of a reflective account
to encourage you to think about how you meet the GPhC standards for pharmacy professionals in the work you do as a pharmacy professional

- using reflective account form
what is the aim of peer discussion
- an activity that encourages you to get another persons perspective on your practice and help avoid isolation
- to reflect on learning and practice
- peer should ask questions about their practice, offer suggestions for improvement if possible and challenge assumptions
what does peer discussion involve
- peer doesn’t have to be a pharmacist, but must understand your role
- choose someone who can be objective, shouldn’t have too close a personal relationship
- can be in 1 sitting or several shorter one can be conducted at any time, in person or remotely
- its not intended to be a review of a pharmacists performance
- recorded on peer discussion form
independent prescriber
responsible and accountable for the assessment of pts with undiagnosed or diagnosed conditions and can make prescribing decisions to maa=nage clinical condition of the pt
supplementary prescriber
practitioner who prescribes within an agreed pt specific clinical management plan, agreed in partnership by a supplementary prescriber with a doctor or dentist
