what does safeguarding mean?
It is an action taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm
what does legislation mean?
It is a set of law or laws that have been passed by the parliament. (legislation is legal requirement)
what is a policy?
Is a document created to outline how early years years settings meets legal requirements
what is a procedure?
A procedures outline ways in which policies can be carried out

Ptsd, depression, self-harm, eating disorders, generalised anxiety disorder
Factors that will give children greater ability to cope and help their emotional health and well-being

Early intervention to identify issues and provide effective support is crucial what’ school role?
1.Intervention: creative a safe and calm environment, supporting children on being more resilient so they can manage normal stress of life. Teaching children about mental health and reinforcing the teaching with ethos, activities.
2. Identification: recognising emerging issues as early and accurately as possible.
3. Early support: helping pupils on access evidence informed early support and interventions
4. Access to specialist support: working effectively with external agencies to provide swift access or referrals to a specialist support and treatment .
health and safety at work act 1974
this act related to health and safety is managed in the setting eg. reporting hazards, using safety equipment , keeping yourself and others safe.
Children act 2004
This act is for support multi-agency working to keep children safe and ensure that parents and all those who work with children and young people are able to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
Female genital mutilation FMG act 2003
Include provisions intended to protect young girls and be vigilant and know the signs. under this act it is offence to fail to protect a girl from such a risk

Aims to prevent unsuitable people from working with children and young people and vulnerable adults . through DBS check ( Disclosure and barring service)

This act was set up to improve the services for children. The act sets a requirement for an education, health and Care plan EHCP for children and young people with SEND.

This act was brought in to respond to the risk of terrorism and ensure that relevant authorities consider the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and act to prevent radicalisation.

what is a child in need?
a child in need is a child under 18 that needs extra support to improve their opportunities.
What is a child at risk?
A child at risk is one who is in position of vulnerability to abuse or harm

Is when someone is physically harmed
Emotional abuse
is when someone humiliate, insults and frighten in order to control you can happen through words and behaviour
Sexual abuse
`is when someone is forced to take part in sexual activity
what is` neglect?
someone not meeting children basic and psychological needs like caring, giving them attention and loving them
what is domestic abuse?
is when there is bullying, threatening and violent behaviour between people in a relationship and children witnessing it is abuse
what is`bulllying and cyber bullying?
A group of people threat, insult and physically hurt you, cyberbullying is online and usually anonymously

when a child is manipulated or forced into commitining crimes as part of a gang

what does sexual offences act 2000 states?
It is offence for someone over the age of 18 to engage in a sexual activity with someone under that age when they are in position of trust
