Information to be exchanged with the platform/OIM prior to commencing cargo operations.
A
- Start and stop procedure.
- Quantities and categories of product to be transferred.
- Permitted pumping rate and pressure.
- Emergency stop proceedure.
- The loading/unloading plan should be agreed.
Any circumstances which could limit cargo operations should be communicated between the Master and OIM.

Three stages of communication exchange
A
- Prior to arrival the master obtains permission from the OIM to enter the installations exclusive zone.
- During cargo operations, comms between the officer in charge, cargo handlers, crane operator and deck foreman on offshore installation.
- On departure the master informs the OIM and logistics coordinator about the vessels time of departure and ETA next location.

Good practice during cargo operations.
A
- A good look out should be kept for an on-coming quartering seas which may be shipped over the stern.
- Crew on deck should wear high visible protective clothing and equipment.
- “Safe shelter” positions should be kept clear for crew working on open deck.
- Deck officer should have an overview of all cargo operations.

Notify the OIM immediately:
A
- Onset of adverse weather affecting unloading/back loading.
- Accidental discharge of oil, chemical from installation affecting operations.
- Any incident such as an impact with the installation or fouling of anchors.
