Official paper charts cover commercial shipping routes, ports and harbours helping bridge crews navigate safely in accordance with SOLAS regulations.
Features / Contents
A range of scales to provide appropriate levels of detail. Large scale for main ports and harbours; medium scale for coastal navigation and small scale for offshore navigation.
How would you check it is up to date?
Check the bottom left hand corner and compare with Notices to Mariners. Cumulative list is published every 6 months and contains list of chart corrections for previous 2 years.
How would you update it?
Weekly updates available through weekly notices to mariners. Chasrts also include Admiralty QR codes which allow quick acces to the Notices to Mariners that affect the specific chart or publication.
ENC / RNC Charts
What is it used for?

Electronic navigational charts / raster navigational charts
Describe its features / contents?
ENC- charted information displayed in layered form allowing the navigator to interact with the information. This is achieved through user defined layouts and the setting of alarms.
RNC- electronic version of a paper chart. Limited use of user interactivity and setting of alarms.
How would you know they were up to date?
Check latest date of corrections installed in ECDIS.

Weekly through CD/Rom or with internet connection

This contains the 26 Annual Statutory Notices to Mariners. A summary of the Temporary and Preliminary Notices to Mariners still in force and the Cumulative Summary of Amendments to Admiralty Sailing Directions.
When are they published?
Paper copy published in January each year, Can be accessed online.

Details for all lights including, international number, location, geographical position, characteristics, intensity, elevation in metres and range in sea miles. If the name of the light is in bold it has a range over 15 miles.
