An outward sign of an inward blessing by god for example baptism or eucharist

A ritual or series of ritual practices ehich often have synbolic meaning

Baptism Confirmation Eucharist Penance Marrage Holy orders Annointing of the sick
Why do protestants only recognise baptism and eucharist as sacraments?
Because they are the only 2 sacraments documented in the gospels as being practised bt jesus during his life

Dont believe in them
Believe savraments are an inward spiritual practice and doesnt need external signs or rituals
What is baptism?
An intiation into the christian church
For anglican and catholics its a sacrament and marks the entry of a child into christtianity
For evangelicals and pentecostals irs a rite and indicates a person choosinf ro be christian and showing obediance
John the baptist?
John the baptist is the first jew to use baptism to synbolise the forgiveness of sin. He baptised jesus and remains important

Why do anglicans and catholics practise infant baptism?
Becuase the believe that heaven can only be entered by those who are baptised
Believes it removes baby from original sin brought into the world (adam and eve)
John 3:5 “no one can enter the kingdom of god unless they are born of water and spirit”
Why should baptism only occur when you are an acult?
Becoming part of a faith community is an important commitment and people deserve that choice
Should follow jesus’ example as closely as possible (baptised as an adult)

Why do christians believe baptisms important?
Rite of entry into christians faith
Original sin removed in baptism (genesis 3:6)
Follows the example of Jesus who was baptised as an adult by John the Baptist
Believers baptism gives individuals an opportunity to publicly proclaim their personal faith
What is the eucharist?
Sometimes known ad holy communion
Commemoration to last supper
Service to remember death of jesus including bread and wine used bt jesus in last supper

Importance of eucharist?
participation in the Eucharist enhances and deepens the communion of believers not only with Christ but also with one another.
What are the different interpretations about the eucharist?
Transubstantiation- roman catholics believe that during the eucharist breaj and wine is transformed into actual flesh and blood of jesus
Mystical- orthodox christians believe that jeuss is mustically present with break and wine
Protestant view- beliebe that christ is present spiritually rather than loterally
