sacral plexus Flashcards
nerve to the quadratus femoris and gemellis inferior
fibers from L4 L5 and S1 muscles contribute to lateral rotation and adduction of the thigh
nerve to the obturator internus and gemellus superior
fibers from L5 S1 and S2
these muscles contribute to lateral rotation and abduction of the thigh
pudendal nerve
fibers from S2 S3 and S4
gives branches off inside the pudendal canal
inferior rectal nerve
perineal nerve
terminal branch dorsal nerve of the penis or clitoris
inferior rectal nerve
sensory information from skin around anus and inferior 2/3 of the anal canal
motor supply to the eternal anal sphincter
perineal nerve
divides into deep and superficial branches
deep - supply external anal sphincter, bulbospongiosus, ischiocavernosus, superficial transverse perineus
superficial - carry sensory fibers to posterior scrotum urethral mucosa of the bulb of the penis (men)
labium majus, external urethral orifice and vestibule (women)
dorsal nerve of the penis/clitoris
supplies the deep transverse perineus and urethral sphincter muscles
also carries sensory fibers from corpus cavernosum glans penis and skin covering the penis (men) or corpus cavernosum and clitoris (women)
muscular branches
fibers from S4
supply levator ani and coccygeus muscles
nerve to the piriformis
fibers from S1 and S2 supplies piriformis (from posterior division of sacral plexus)
superior gluteal nerve
fibers from L4 L5 and S1
superior branch supplies the gluteus medius and minimus
inferior branches supply gluteus medius minimus and tensor fascia lata
inferior gluteal nerve
fibers from L5 S1 and S2
innervates gluteus maximus
perforating cutaneous nerve
fibers from S2 and S3
travels through the sacrotuberous ligament supplying the lower medial aspect of the buttocks (possibly formed off a branch of the pudendal nerve)
