SAC 2 KSS Flashcards
Controlled Experiment
Investigation of the relationship between one or more IV’s on a DV, controlling all other variables
Adv: Follows strict procedure that reduces EV’s and CV’s
Disadv: Highly controlled setting may influence participants’ behaviours
Simulation
Involves using a model to study the behaviour of a real or theoretical system
Adv: Can collect data without risking health or safety of participants
Disadv: May involve artificial environments which alter participants’ behaviours
Qualitative data
Data that describes the changes in the quality of something
- participants may be able to elaborate or explain thoughts/feelings
- more difficult to summarise and analyse
Quantitative data
Data collected systematically and presented in numerical form
- easy to summarise and analyse
- participants usually cannot elaborate or provide extra info on responses
Objective data
Data that is observable, measurable and verifiable
- less prone to bias
- Some behaviour/mental process cannot be directly observed or measured
Subjective Data
data that is based on personal opinion, interpretation or judgement
-provides info on mental processes or behaviours that are difficult to observe or measure
- more prone to bias
