Health and wellbeing is subjective because the concept is viewed in many different ways by different people. Factors like age, fitness and social networks can alter someone’s views on their health and wellbeing.

A 15-year-old student has sustained a concussion during a game of AFL. He will have to stay from sports for two week and is bed ridden for 1 weeks. Briefly discuss how three dimensions of health and wellbeing may be affected.

A

His physical health and wellbeing will be affected as he will not have a well functioning body due to his injury leading to not being able to perform daily physical tasks as he is bed ridden, this also leads to weight gain. 1 Mark

His mental health and wellbeing may also be negatively affected as his self esteem may be lowered due to not being able to perform some day to day activities. This will make him feel discouraged causing low self esteem. 1 Mark

Spiritual Health and Wellbeing may be affected as he will not be able to play AFL with his friends due to his concussion keeping him away from the sport, affecting his sense of belonging and connection to groups.

It is the gap between current health status and where everyone lives to an old age free of disease and disability. 1 mark

This is measured in DALY- Daily Adjusted life years which is one year of life lost due to death or the time of YLL as a result of disease and disability. 1 mark
