s4.1 - blood supply to the brain Flashcards
draw and label the circle of willis
try to add what each area supplies !
check vs notes
what does the ACA,MCA(also give key branch) and PCA each supply
mca -
Cortical branches emerge from the lateral fissure to supply the lateral aspect of the cerebral hemisphere, including lateral parts of the frontal and parietal lobes as wellas the superior temporal lobe
Deep branches (the lenticulostriate arteries) supply deep grey matter structures including the lentiform nucleus and caudate as well as theinternal capsule
Aca -
The vessels loop over the corpus callosum and send branches to the adjacent cortex
Cortical branches supply the medial aspect of the frontal and parietal lobes (not the occipital lobe)
There are also branches to the corpus callosum itself
PCA - Terminal bifurcation of basilar artery gives rise to the posterior cerebral artery
o Supplies occipital lobe, inferior temporal lobe and
thalamus (via thalamoperforator and
thalamogeniculate branches)
SCA,PICA,AICA (cerebelar arteries) - what do the supply
also think en passe
they supply the cerebellum, and en passe the midbrain, pons and medulla en passe respectivley
what are the two branches of the vertebral artery ? what do they supply ?
the anterior spinal arterys - which supply the top 2/3 of the spinal cord
and PICA
