What are additional goals
- Establish control over carries conveyances and merchandise
- Track arrival and departure
- Obtain info about pax’s or merchandise aboard
As cbp officers your goals are to
- Process incoming and outgoing conveyances
- Select conveyances for closer examination

Why does cbp control the carrier
To more easily control merchandise they are carrying
Different modes of transportation have different cbp requirements
Arrivals and departures, three general cbp requirements that apply to all conveyances
All conveyances must report arrival to cbp in a timely manner
All conveyances must present cbp with manifest of cargo
All conveyances are prohibited from discharging passengers or cargo or leaving, until cbp lets them
Timelines for arrivals on different conveyance
Sea 24 hours
Land
Trucks 1hour
Rail 2 hours
(FAST) 30 minutes
Air 4 hours
What is the person in charge of the conveyance called?
The master
