Similarity, straight line, simultaneous equations
Simultaneous Equations
Two equations in two unknowns that can be solved at the same time
First step in solving simultaneous equations
Multiply either or both of the equations to get matching coefficients with opposite signs on 1 of the variables
Similarity
When shapes are enlargements or reductions of one another
First step in solving similarity problems
Find the length scale factor as new length/old length, with the ‘new’ shape being the shape we are trying to find information out about
Area scale factor
the square of the length scale factor
Volume scale factor
the cube of the length scale factor
Finding the gradient and y-intercept of a line from its equation
Rearrange into y = mx + c form, and read off: m is the gradient, and (0,c) is the co-ordinate of the y-intercept
Find the gradient between two points
m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
