S3 LB flashcards
Symmetry
When something is done to a shape and it remains the same
Reflection symmetry
When a shape can be reflected across a line and remain the same, as if in a mirror
Rotational symmetry
When a shape can be turned by an amount and stay the same
Order of rotational symmetry
The number of ways a shape can be rotated and remain the same
Trigonometry
the study of angles and side lengths in right-angled triangles
SOHCAHTOA
sin x = o/h, cos x = a/h, tan x = o/a
Hypotenuse
the longest side in a right angled triangle, opposite the right angle
Opposite
the side across a triangle from a given angle
Adjacent
the side beside a given angle that is not the hypotenuse
Mean
The total of a set of data divided by number of pieces, ‘the average’
Mode
Most common piece of data in a set of data
Range
Highest element of data take away lowest element of data, ‘the spread of data’
Median
The middle number of a set of data when put in ascending order
What makes a good bar chart?
Title, axis labels, numbers on lines, equal spacing
Finding sides in trigonometry
label sides, identify trig ratio, write trig ratio with substituted values, solve for unknown and use trig functions in calculator
Finding angles in trigonometry
label sides, identify trig ratio, write trig ratio with substituted values, solve for unknown angle using inverse trig functions in calculator
