What is the role of the HM Coroner?

A
  • An independent officer of the crown
  • A solicitor or doctor, appointed by the local council
  • Investigates deaths
    o Unnatural or unexpected
    o Cause of death unknown
    o In state detention (died under the care of state in prison)
    -It is an inquiry to establish how or why someone died this may lead to criminal or professional repercussion
