S2-Lab 4- Qualitative Approach- Movement Analysis Flashcards
What is the six step approach for gathering evidence when it comes to a qualitative approach?
- Determine the objective of the skill
- Note any special characteristics of the skill
- Study top-flight (elite) performances of the skill
- Divide skill into phases
- Divide each phase into key elements
6.Understand the mechanical reasons for each element
When employing a qualitative approach, it is useful to understand the possible and main “constraints of movement”
- Movement pattern
- Skill
- Technique
- Style
- Rules and Environment
- Human constraints- strength, power, endurance, speed , flexibility.
Step 1- Determine the objectives of the skill-
Identify these and look for an OPO
= Overall Performance Objective
This can be broken down into primary and secondary objectives
Step 2- Note any special characteristics of the skill
Is the skill open/ closed
Is the skill discrete/ continuous
Step 3- Study a top-fight (elite) performance of the skill
Look at the skills demonstrated and factors that might constrain movement
Constraints of movement- skill, technique, movement pattern, style, rules and environment, human factors- strength, power, endurance
Step 4- Divide into key phases
3 main phases
PREPARATORY
EXECUTION
RECOVERY
Step 5- Divide into key elements- those between the key phases
Looks at the main aspects of each stage and allows you to indicate where you think the transitions are.
Step 6- understand the mechanical reasons for each element
Human factors-
“lower kinetic chain”
-turning force
-power
-technique
