S14- Development of the Reproductive System Flashcards
1
Q
What is gastrulation and when does it occur?
A
Gastrulation if the formation of the trilaminar disc and occurs around day 16. The development of the ectoderm is induced by the notochord.
2
Q
How does the neural tube form?
A
The ectoderm invaginates to form the neural tube. Induction is caused by the underlying notochord.
3
Q
What is formed by the ectoderm layer?
A
It forms the skin, neural system and the neural crest cells.
4
Q
What folding occurs in the embryo?
A
Craniocaudal folding and lateral folding.
This converts the flattened disc into a 3D structure.
5
Q
What are examples of some structures formed by the neural crest cells?
A
Dorsal root ganglion
Melanocytes
medulla of adrenal gland
Sympathetic chain ganglion
