s1 exam 2021 Flashcards
What are the four steps of teaching sports and skills?
- introducing the skill
- demonstrating and explaining the skill
- practising the skill
- providing feedback to correct error
Explain why viewing angle important when demonstrating a skill
- get the athletes attention
- arrange athletes so they can see and hear
- positioning is crucial - side on, in front, etc.
Define the difference between a learning error and a performance error
- learning errors: occur when an athlete has not yet developed a skill that they don’t know how to perform
- performance errors: are made because an athlete incorrectly executes a skill which they are capable of performing
List the seven components of a training lesson. Briefly explain what each component requires coaches to action.
- Introduction: meet and inform of leaning outcomes, a stage of preparation
- Warm up: include general aerobic activities, specific stretching exercises, simple exercises
- Fitness training: development of physical capabilities
- Skill development: major part of the session, where introduction of new skills or revision of old can take place
- Culmination: for skill application
- Cool down: light stretches to get body back to normal
- Evaluation: give and obtain feedback about the session
Gymnastic (artistic)
- artistic gymnastics trampolining diving figure skating
Combat
- martial arts boxing wrestling
Extreme
- skateboarding rock climbing
When a coach is defining a playing strategy for a team sport, what focus areas or decisions should they be making? Why are tactics important in a strategy?
- tactics are the ways of carrying out the strategy
- team strategy is to make opposition team difficult to execute attacking leads
Mental skills differ from physical skills. What are the defined names for these skills?
Cognitive (mental) and motor (physical) skills
What are the other essential elements of a skill?
- Skill is learned (requires practice)
- skill is goal directed
- skill is performed with consistency
- skill is coordinated and refined
The Learning process has four phases. What are they, and what does each phase involve?
- Receiving info, seeing something happen
- Deciding, processing data received by the brain
- Acting, performance of necessary movement
- Evaluating, feedback about the performance > loops back to the beginning of the cycle
Motor skills have many forms of classification. What are the five classification categories and what are their ranges?
- Muscle involvement (gross motor skills (uses a lot of muscles, swimming) and fine motor skills (uses little muscle, darts))
- Continuity (continuous)
- Pacing (self pacing , externally paced)
- Environmental impact (closed (inside gym) and open skills (ocean))
- Complexity (simple and complex)
What are some of the contributions that biomechanics can make to improve sports performance?
- To prevent injuries
- Technique adjustment
- Improve sporting performance
What are the three ways motion can be described? Briefly explain and give an example for each.
- Linear, ball in a chest pass
- Angular, rotation (gymnast on parallel bars)
- General, cyclist has angular motion in their legs
Why does a fast bowler in cricket take a longer run up than a spin bowler?
To generate forces that increase power and velocity = the body (ball) is projected faster and with more momentum
