S&F; Cell Division Flashcards
what are the cells destinies?
live and function without dividing (neuron)
grow and divide (skin/liver/microvilli)
die (apoptosis)
what are the stages of interphase?
G1 (growth); where most cellular activities are occurring some cells dont get past g1 (g0)
S (synthesis); dna replicates w dna polymerase
G2 (growth); checks for correct DNA synthesis, replication for centrosomes is completed
what are the different phases of mitosis?
prophase; chromosome condensed
metaphase; condensed chromosomes align
anaphase; chromosomes are sepearated by sindle fibres
telophase;mnuclear envelope forms, and cleavage vollows.
cytokinesis
what are the checkpoints for the cell cycle?
g1 checkpoints?
- is the dna undamaged
- is cell size and nutrition ok?
- appropriate signals present?
IF NOT ,, exit to g0
m checkpoints;
- are all chromosomes attached to spindles
mitosis vs meiosis
number of divisions; 1 vs 2
sypnasis of homologous; no vs prophase 1chromosomes; does not occur vs yes in prophase
number of daughter cells + genetic information; two (genetically identical) vs 4 ( haploid cell
