RVT- Muscles of the neck and foreleg Flashcards
What are the basic functions of intrinsic muscles?
Flexion of the joint
Extension of the joint
Stabilization of the joint
What are the basic functions of extrinsic muscles?
Adduct
Abduct
Retract
Protract
What is the name of an important lymph node found in the cervical region and what muscle is it attached to?
Superficial cervical lymph node located medially to the omohyoideus muscle
What would happen to a dog that had a paralysed pectoral muscle?
Would not be able to abduct its leg as the pectoral muscle is an adductor
What would happen to a dog with a paralyzed Cranial brachial group of muscles?
It would not be able to extend the carpus and digits as the cbg are the extensors of the carpus and digits
What would happen to a dog with a paralyzed caudal antebrachial group of muscles?
The CaG are the flexors of the carpus and digits so they would not be able to extend.
What do the quadricepts do?
They all extend the knee
What do the hamstrings do?
Flex the knee
What are the muscles of the quadricepts?
Vastus lateralis
Vastus medialis
Vastus femoris
Vastus intermedius
What are the muscles of the hamstring area?
semi-tendonis
semi-membranous
Bicepts femoris
What is the difference between a tendon and an aponeurosis?
A tendon is a projection of connective tissue attaching muscle to bone
Aponeurosis is a broad fiberous sheet of connective tissue
What are a few examples of muscles with aponeurosis?
Lattisimus dorsi
External / internal abdominal obliques
Transverse abdominus
What is the extrinsic muscles of the thoracic limb?
Lattisimus dorsi
Serratus ventralis
Deep and superficial pectoral muscles
What is the difference between a tendon and a ligament?
A tendon connects bone to muscle
A ligament connects bone to bone
What is the linea alba?
It is a non vascular fiberous connective tissue that runs along the central midline of the animal. It is not muscle.
