Masseter - closes jaw
Pterygoids - One closes, One opens
Digastricus - opens the mouth
Temperol - closes the jaw
What are the muscles of facial expression?
Obicularis oris Obicularis oculi Levator nasolabialis Frontal muscle Zygomaticus Platysimus
What does the obicularis oculi do?
Opens and closes the eye
What does the obicularis oris do?
Lifts and pulls back the lips
What is the function of the levator nasolabialis?
Raises nose and lip
What is the function of the frontalis muscle?
Brings eye and ear closer
Whaat is the function of the Zygomaticus?
Brings base of ear down
What is the purpose of the platysma muscle?
Pulls lip on side and bottom down
What is the main nerve that innervates all facial muscles?
‘Facial nerve’ If it gets damaged = facial paralysis
