RV Measurements Flashcards
Which of the following statements is incorrect when measuring the RV measurement?
-Drawing a line from the leaflet tips of the tricuspid valve to the RV APEX
- MId cavity diameter measured at the level of papilliary muscles
-Perform at end diastole
- Drawing a line from mid point of the tricuspid annulus to the RV apex
Drawing a line from mid point of the tricuspid annulus to the RV apex
Right ventricular (RV) fractional area change (FAC) can provide an estimate on regional RV systolic dysfunction.

Describe Tapse
on your answer
TAPSE (Tricuspid annulus peak systolic excursion) is a measurement of longitudinal systolic performance of the right ventricle. It is measured in the A4C view. An M-mode cursor should be aligned along the RV free wall as perpendicular to the lateral tricuspid annulus as possible (and as parallel as possible to movement of the TV annulus).
When assessing the right ventricular size which view is recommended?
Parasternal short axis view-mid level of the LV
Focused Apical 4 chamber view
Focused Subcostal view-4 chamber
Parasternal long axis view-zoomed
Focused Apical 4 chamber view
When assessing the right ventricular wall thickness which view is recommended?
Modified apical 4 chamber
Subcostal 4 chamber
Parasternal long
Subcostal 4 chamber
Right ventricle–focused apical 4 chamber
Subcostal 4 chamber
From the parasternal short-axis (PSAX) view, calipers placed from the aortic valve root to the anterior RV at end-diastole is a measurement of
Proximal RV outflow tract.
Basal RV cavity.
Distal RV outflow tract.
Mid RV cavity.
Proximal RV outflow tract.

The proximal RV outflow tract view can also be performed from the PLAX view. The distal RVOT diameter (answer A) is measured from the PSAX view at the great vessel or pulmonary artery bifurcation view as the linear traverse dimension just proximal to the pulmonary valve. The basal RV and the mid-RV are measured from the RV-focused apical 4-chamber view.
