what was the cause of dual power
Nicholas II abdocated (15th March) to his uncle grand duke mikhail became the new tsar . because of petrograd garrison mutiny
mikilyov and the right winged kadets supported this but workers of petrograd refused to support monarchy
mikhail abdicated on 3rd march 1917

so the overthrow of tsarism with no stability after feb revolution to what trotsky called dual power

petrograd soviet and provisional government
what was the provisional government
the provisional government claimed to be thye sole legal government of russia
role was to govern temporarily untill the new constitutent (democratically elected) created a new consititution
-primarilly middle class
-leader was price lvov, who was widley respected was mainly the figure head
but the real driving force was kadet leader milyukov
chosen by comitee of duma not the people
kadets and other liberal parties

was democratically elected body representing the workers and the army of petrograd
contoll of the local garrisons,factories and railways
more powerful technically but ddint claim to govern russia
chairman was a menshevik chkheidze
socialists and mensheviks and srs

Order No. 1, issued on March 1, 1917, by the Petrograd Soviet of Workers’ and Soldiers’ Deputies, was an important decree that undermined the Provisional Government by granting soldiers and sailors the right to elect their own committees and limiting the authority of officers, while also requiring military units to obey the Soviet’s orders giving them power of the army
