give a description of tsar Nicholas II
he was the autocratic ruler of russia and he was a well-meaning man who was devoted to his family. he believed that autocracy was the best way of ruling and democracy would lead to the collapse of russia.
how was the tsar influenced by his wife?
she demanded that nicholas should spend time with his family and that he should not share his power with anyone but pass it on to his son alexis.
how did the people of russia view the tsar?
the russian people believed that the tsar was unfit to run the country as nicholas found the daily work of a monarch boring. he never had an opinion of his own and always agreed with the judgement of the last person who spoke to him.
how was the tsarina related to the British monarch?
she was the granddaughter of the British monarch ruled by Queen Victoria at that time.
which disease did alexis suffer from and how did it affect him?
alexis suffered from hemophilia and it was a blood disease that allowed blood to flow when there was an injury instead of the blood clotting.

who were the aristocrats?
they consisted of the royal family and nobles who owned 25% of the land but only 1% of the population were aristocrat. they were extremely rich and often had 2 homes, one in St Petersburg and one in Moscow. They would spent part of the year enjoying the ballet.
who were the middle class (commercial working class)
these were bankers, factory owners, shop keepers, etc. the link between businessmen and the government was very strong and the government often gave them loans. life was good for them.
who were the industrial workers?
thee were mostly ex peasants who moved to the cities to work in factories. this was a poor class and they received low wage and they worked long hours. they would live in poor lodging and they ate little food.

who were the peasants?
the peasants were poor and they lived dreadfully. they used backward strip methods of farming where each family had 20-30 narrow strips across the village. the main problem for them was land and majority of them were serfs.
what are serfs?
a serf is a person owned by their master.
