Caucasus
The Caucasus or Caucasia, is a transcontinental region between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, mainly comprising Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and parts of Southern Russia.
Ural Mountains
The Ural Mountains run 2500 km north-south through western Russia, and form the boundary between Europe and Asia.
Siberia
Siberia, vast region of Russia and northern Kazakhstan, constituting all of northern Asia. Siberia extends from the Ural Mountains in the west to the Pacific Ocean in the east and southward from the Arctic Ocean to the hills of north-central Kazakhstan and the borders of Mongolia and China.
Ob River
river of central Russia. One of the greatest rivers of Asia, the Ob flows north and west across western Siberia in a twisting diagonal from its sources in the Altai Mountains to its outlet through the Gulf of Ob into the Kara Sea of the Arctic Ocean.
Amur River
Amur river (known as the Heilong in China) flows for over 4,000km, starting in Mongolia and forming the border between north-east China and south-east Russia
Lake Baikal
Situated in south-east Siberia, the 3.15-million-ha Lake Baikal is the oldest (25 million years) and deepest (1,700 m) lake in the world. It contains 20% of the world’s total unfrozen freshwater reserve.
Caspian Sea
The Caspian Sea lies to the east of the Caucasus Mountains and to the west of the vast steppe of Central Asia.
Aral Sea
the boundary between Kazakhstan to the north and Uzbekistan to the south.
Bering Strait
The Bering Strait separates Russia and Alaska at their closest point
