Zone where rural and urban areas meet, mix and sometimes conflict with one another

What is a greenfield site?
Land that has never been built on before
Advantages and disadvantages of a greenfield site
Advantages
- cheaper + faster house building rates
- Easier to build on as no need to clear anything
- Healthier environment
Disadvantages
- farmland lost
- noise and light pollution in countryside due to development
Wildlife lose habitat
- Encourages further suburban sprawl (rapid expansion of cities into rural areas)
What is a brownfield site?
abandoned land which will be destroyed and then new structure will be built on top of that
Advantages and disadvantages of a brownfield site
Advantages
- reduces loss of countryside land
- revives abandoned areas
- services already in place
- located in main areas of employment
Disadvantages
- More expensive as have to clear old buildings
- Surrounded by abandoned areas as well (normally)
- Higher pollution
- May not have good roas access
