Advantages

  • cheaper + faster house building rates
  • Easier to build on as no need to clear anything
  • Healthier environment

Disadvantages
- farmland lost
- noise and light pollution in countryside due to development
Wildlife lose habitat
- Encourages further suburban sprawl (rapid expansion of cities into rural areas)

Advantages

  • reduces loss of countryside land
  • revives abandoned areas
  • services already in place
  • located in main areas of employment

Disadvantages

  • More expensive as have to clear old buildings
  • Surrounded by abandoned areas as well (normally)
  • Higher pollution
  • May not have good roas access
