A
- very common to have a farmer over 50-60 y/o with sensorineural hearing loss
- tinnitus is also very common (loud power tools, cab-less tractors, small-engines like a chainsaw or woodsplitter, pounding metal)
- hearing protection is the name of the game- where ear muffs

skin problems farmers face?
A
- exposure to UV light
- sunburn- 2nd degree burns are common
- chemical skin burn (Diesel fuel, herbicides, pesticides etc.)
- skin cancer
prevention- protect yourself from the sun- wide brim hats, sunscree, long sleeve shirt, cab tractors, sunglasses

Eye problems farmers face?
A
- foreign body(anesthetic (proparacaine) fluorescein staining, excellent magnification, excellent lighting,)
- corneal abrasion, flash burn, chemical burn
- safety glasses are the ultimate prevention; welding helmets have a dark shaded lense to prevent flash burning

A
- COPD, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma
- farmer’s lung: dusty environment, chicken manure, silo gas, exhaust from gas/diesel engines
- prevention- quality ventilation for buildings, Cab tractors, wear a mask/ventilator, good humidity

musculoskeletal problems farmers face?
A
- muscle strains, joint sprains, tendonitis
- fractures, arthritis (farming is physical, overuse injuries, trauma, falls, heavy lifting, wear and tear)
- prevention: Physical conditioning, plan ahead, stretching, quality footwear, vison, stretching, tools

- mother nature
- alcohol abuse, tobacco, depression, anxiety, suicide (weather, burnout, isolation from people, distance from hospital/healthcare etc.)

hand problems farmers face?
A
lacerations, fractures, pinching fingers, subungal hematoma, silver/foreign body, traumatic amputation
- prevention: weraring gloves, ensure adequate lighting, make sure equipment is turned off during maintenance
avoid metal rings when working around ,respect machinery
