running Flashcards
1
Q
describe walk to run transition
A
at about 4.5 mph walk pattern will modify to run
2
Q
identify differences in cycle between walking and running
A
- stride rate
- contact periods (walk one foot always on ground, run flight period)
- percent of cycle in stance/swing
3
Q
explain goals of running
A
- move from point A to B faster than walking
- be displaced more quickly than walking
- remains upright is not goal but bounding helps
4
Q
how running is modified on different surfaces
A
- hard surfaces is normal run
- soft is harder more work/energy
- uneven is hard and takes adjusting and more grip
5
Q
how running is modified on different grades
A
- up incline uses more energy and anterior tilt
- decline uses less energy with posterior tilt
6
Q
how running is modified on different strike patterns
A
- forefoot striking is ball of foot hits ground first (not the norm)
- normal foot striking is calcaneus (heel) to forefoot (toe/ball)
