On a Motocycle, Scooter or Moped what must the rider or passenger wear at all times?
Riders and passengers MUST wear helmets.
This does not apply to a follower of the Sikh religion while wearing a turban.
What types of Motorcycles can be seen on the roads and must wear helmets?
Motorbikes, scooters, moped riders.
This also includes motor tricycles and quadricycles (quad bikes).
How should a motorcyclists and their pillion passenger behave?
You MUST NOT carry more than one pillion passenger who MUST sit astride the machine on a proper seat. They should face forward with both feet on the footrests. Both the rider and pillion passenger MUST wear a helmet.
Can motorcyclists carry a pillion passenger if they only have a provisional licence?
Provisional licence holders MUST NOT carry a pillion passenger.
If a motorcycle is not designed for more than one person, can you carry a pillion passenger?
You MUST NOT carry a pillion passenger unless your motorcycle is designed to do so.
When riding in the daylight how should riders make themselves more visible. And Why?
Riders are encouraged to wear a light or bright coloured helmet and also fluorescent clothing or strips. Other vehicles still may not have seen you or misjudged your distance and speed.
How should riders behave in the dark?
Riders should wear reflective clothing or strips to improve visibility of themselves for other drivers.
How should riders behave when maneuvering their vehicle?
The rider should be aware of surroundings, look behind using mirrors if possible. Look out for pedestrians crossing between vehicles or emerging vehicles from junctions. Ensure drivers can see you in their mirrors. Take care and keep speed low.
