A

Cycle MUST have white front lights are red rear lights lit.
Amber pedal reflectors if manufactures after ‘85.
These will help you be seen when on roads or cycle paths.
Flashing flights permitted but steady front light preferred.

A

Usually located away from the road, but may occasionally be found alongside footpaths or pavements. May or may not be segregated.

When using segregated tracks you MUST keep to the side intended for cyclists as the pedestrian side is a pavements.

Cycle Lanes are marked by a white line along the carriage way. Keep within the lane when possible. Upon leaving check before you pull out that it is safe to do so and signal your intent clearly.

A

Watch out for vehicles turning in front of you, out of or into the side road. Before you turn check for undertaking cyclists or motorcyclists. DO NOT ride on the inside of vehicles signalling or slow down to turn left.

A

Check the traffic the ensure it is safe, then signal and move to the center of the road. Wait for a safe gap in the oncoming traffic and give a final look before completing the turn. Safer to wait on the left or to dismount and push your cycle across the road.

A

Pay particular attention as they need a lot of room to man-oeuvre at corners. Drivers may not see you and may have to move to the right in order to turn left. Wait until they have completed their turn as their rear wheels come very close to the kerb while turning. Never ride between the vehicle and the kerb.

A

Remember that traffic on most dual carriageways moves quickly. When crossing wait for a safe gap and cross each carriageway in turn. Take extra care when crossing slip roads.

A

Possibly safer to walk the cycle round on the pavements. If riding round you should:

  1. Be aware drivers may not easily see you
  2. Take extra care when cycling across exits. Signal right to show you are not leaving yet.
  3. Watch out for vehicles crossing your path to leave or join the roundabout.

A

Give plenty of room as they need more room to turn. DO NOT rider in the space they need to get round the roundabout. It may be safer to wait until they have cleared the roundabout.

A

These are light controlled crossings that allow cyclists and pedestrians to share the same crossing and cross together.
Green light is signaled for both and Cyclists can ride across.

A

Cycle tracks on opposite sides of the road may be linked by signaled crossings. You may ride across but you MUST NOT cross until the green symbol is showing.
