Keep personal belongings out of the work area.

Take precautions to protect skin.clothing and belongings from contamination.

Wash hands and thoroughly clean work area before leaving the area.

Always leave gas outlets in off position when Bunsen Burner not in use

Before a spill is cleaned up immediately notify the instructor/lab.assistant. ~Chemical spills on skin flood area water Chemical spills on table/floor neutralize acids or bases and clean up all chemicals using Spill Blankets.

Never pour chemicals back into the original reagent container: keep all containers of chemicals clean and dry

Avoid placing reagent bottles or other caustic agent on top of desk

Pour chemicals from the bottle on the side away from the label (to avoid label damage).

Return all containers of chemicals to the appropriate location (do not remove chemicals from the area,unless directed otherwise). Be sure all bottles are properly closed when you finish using them.

If you must determine the odor of a substance, gently fan (waft) a little of the vapor toward your nose with your hand, but keep your face at a safe distance.

When heating a substance in a test tube,never point the tube toward yourself or anyone else:bubble vapor can eject contents violently

If a fire occurs in a beaker or evaporating dish, it can be extinguished by covering the vessel with a watch glass or wet towel. More extensive fires should be extinguished with fire extinguisher or a fire blanket.

Beware of hot glassware.Use tongs,clamps, asbestos gloves, etc. to handle hot glassware.

When diluting strong acids, pour acids slowly into water while mixing slowly and carefully. Never add water to acid

Clean all laboratory tables and other work surfaces with the proper cleaning agent after each use.
